Outreach Worker Training Institute

Strengthening skills. Cultivating knowledge.
Building community.

At AHEC's Outreach Worker Training Institute, we believe that Community Health Workers (CHWs) are integral to the health care delivery system. As such, we provide comprehensive education certificate courses in order to promote and foster the skill and knowledge of today's CHWs. It is through education and growth that community health workers can promote access to full and equal health and social services, and better serve the unique communities of Massachusetts.

The 45-hour CHW Certificate Course

  • Fifteen Part Training (three hours per weekly session)
  • 8 Outreach Core Competency Sessions
  • 7 Community and Health Specific Competency Sessions

Our 45-hour CHW Certificate Course centers around the topics of communication, community assessment and advocacy skills, with an emphasis on environmental health, substance abuse and addiction, mental health, and other competencies.

The 18-hour Supervisor Certificate Course

  • Three Part Training (six hours per weekly sessions) in Worcester and Gardner

Our 18-hour Supervisor Certificate Course is designed specifically for those that oversee CHWs in the field. With that in mind, we focus on areas of conflict resolution, professional boundaries, supervision strategies, and the individual roles and needs of CHWs and their supervisors.
